Trip to Temburong District. Last trip from BEACA

The meet point for this activity was at shibie's parking area, as usual, we are ready by 5.50am and wait for the others and the bus to come. We went to Kianggeh, where our lecturer,DR.Irene and DR.Asmah waiting us. We are going to use Speedboat to Temburong.

The evaluation for BEACA for this semester was Temburong. We have learn so much, and gain experiences from previous activities, Jungle tracking and sailing,so now it's time for us to use all that and teamwork for the last activity,Temburong.

We first arrived at Temburong and having our breakfast at restaurant to equipped ourself some energy for the long trip. After finished the breakfast,we went into the bus guide by a Murut girl name Cecelia binti Yusof who is actually a local people there. She guide us from Bangar to Ulu Temburong and till the rest of the trip.

We bought rubber shoes from a small shop on the way to Ulu Temburong, The shoes are useful as it can help us from getting slipped. We arrived at the Ulu Temburong and pack our stuff in plastic bag as precaution. We also alert to use life jacket before get in the long boat. As previous trip have taught us many things. Also,to be prepare of the strong current river.

As we know, Temburong was rich with beautiful flora and fauna. I called it the green district. We went along through the Temburong River. All i can see is nature. The stones (Batu kelikir) along the river, which made the river current change. I was surprise that i can see a very tall and big tree there, which i only find that tree during the big tree's trip.

The most experiencing moment was getting on the "canopy walk" climbed up the small scalfoldings stairs and walk on the bridges. IT WAS AWESOME!! yet we can see beautiful view of Temburong green forest. The experience getting on top of the "Canopy walk" was so unforgettable.

After all of us have went up the canopy walk,we went back to the boat for another stop at Long House. Before that,we stopped at the waterfall, located at the river bank. It was so beautiful and refreshing. We took a quick bath to enjoy the cold water and eat our lunch there.

We stopped at long house to learn more about life of local people there. They share one roof with about 10 families. Most of them are the pure iban. Iban was one of the local people in temburong, besides Murut and Dusun. They expert in making basket and mat using bamboo. For sale for tourist and locals. They are still with their traditional life even some of them, the young generations have migrate to Bandar for educations and works. We also stopped at BANGAR for some fruit and refreshment.d price

To sum up,there is so many differences between Bandar Seri Begawan and Temburong. I can say Temburong was a place where all the stress went out. Away from noises of traffic and busies day. Also there was so many things that can be do to improved our economy, Temburong can be one of the main tourist attraction and local in Brunei. Yes, i agree there was so many things that can be appreciate in Brunei. That all bruneian should know about it. Everything that i learned from this trip, i will share with all my friends members. For their next holiday venues. Afterall, the trip was successful and experiencing.

Friday,30th October 2009, Sailing.

After done some jungle trekking on the previous weeks, now we come for new experienced that is sailing.

Friday, we are told to be at serasa's parking lot by 6.20 am. Some of our friend came a bit late because they taught that there will be a bus at UBD. We waited for the owner of the yacht to pick us up using a small boat. As they arrived, 8 of us (beacan) ,10 with captain and the owner of the yacht fit in the boat. This was the time when the disaster happened. The boat that fit 10 people turn over. Everyone fall into the water, with their belongings. The problems are, their are not using life jackets and their did'not know how to swim. Luckly,They can hold on the boat and some of them grab the life jacket. All the belonging, such as cameras, mobile phones and other stuff all get wet.

But we need to continued the activity, we need to be responsible as the activities and work given. As we reached the yacht, the owner give us a short brief on how to be on board and the disciplines. She told us to watch our steps, always hold on something to prevent being unbalanced that we might fall into the water. She also taught us about mapping, how to read a map. but it quite confusing. My members and i also learnt how to handle the yacht as the captain give us the opportunities to hold on the wheel. This so much taught us leadership skills. As we also learnt how to tie a knot, to rise up the sail which we never done it before.

  • King knot (useful knot)
  • Other knot that i didnt know what it called.

Economy of Brunei, As we sailed around muara, we can see the port where the main trade port was. There was so many ships,as mention by the owner, the ships come from around the world. The export and import trade. Here, Talking about the environment, There was a cement factory near the muara port, which told by the owner, when a time there will be a huge dust coming out from the factory and spread when the wind blew. this may dangerous to health.

We sail through Muara Besar and pelumpong island(man-made island) which have been cut out about 500meter to let the big ship to pass through. We also stopped for a while at the pelumpong island to enjoy and rest. The island was so clean and the water was so clear. Even some animals live there such as monkey.

We back to the yacht after an hour break, some of us enjoy swimming to the yacht. We supposed to be at the beach by 12pm but we arrived 2hours late because of the yacht's enjine have some problem that need to be fixed. We soon arrived after the enjine was fixed.

Afterall, the activity was successful. Even we started a bit late due to UNEXPECTED accident. but it was useful to us, it taught us more about survival, discipline and leadership. And always aware of danger, (SAFETY ALWAYS COME FIRST). Also we need to be aware of the environment, I BELIEVE that if we protect our environment, this can help to increase our economy in way of tourism. Even i was so surprise, that we still have the beautiful island.

Sunday, 25th October 2009 BIG TREE

Yesterday, We went for another trip to Big Tree that located at Jalan Kota Batu. Since the post have been full,i just become a member. I joined Dillah's group with other member Hjh.Norhakimah,Malik and Azri as a sweeper. From the previous jungle tracking, it keeps me confidence to go for this trip. So,lead by dillah, we went in as the first group.

We were told by dillah and azri that the pathway was like a "lolipop". The checkpoint as mention by Azri, where we went for the other way round, which mean we are facing the other group,so dillah and azri decided to go back and catch them. As i experienced previous tracking and listened what Dr.Irene said to other group before started ,that the last group is going to take out the marker,I told them that we have to walk a bit faster to catch up the last group before we lost all the marker.

When we reached the stiff way, that we have to used rope to go down i heard some voices from the last member, and i believe that we can catch them up. Since some of the markers are not taken out, that give us the clue which way to go and still on track.

At the last junction, where we went straight and this is where we started to lost track, when the leader cannot remember the way,and some of us was getting exhausted. Azri believed that we missed the way, and decided to go back but the others are not agree. So,they decided to asked for Dr.Irene help.

Dr.Irene and some members went back in. They found us just about 300meters from the exit where the junction is. Afterall, we safely went out.

What i learned from this tracking, is that, we need to focus and look after the markers CAREFULLY ( for the leader ). We also need to build up TEAMWORK with the group. Because we teamwork, we can succesfully build up that good quality of work.

Form other aspects, I realized that our country still have that BEAUTIFUL FLORA AND FAUNA that another country does'nt have. THE BIG TREE, that we are told have been grown 100 years ago and still there. Which i totally surprise. People around the world, the tourist, i'm sure will like and will visited our country if we conserve this forest. This can also improve our tourism activity as well as our economy.

Friday 23rd October 2009, SOUTH POLE GIRL.

The SOUTH POLE girl, Dk.Najibah Eradah had come to UBD at CLT ROOM 1.17 to give some motivational talk to the students and lecturer.

The talk open with Doa by Imam of Masjid University Brunei Darussalam, and some introduction by Dr.Asmah. Dk.Najibah Eradah 26 easy to call Era, become the core of Brunei Adventure Recreation Association ( BARA ) Urged the student to set up their goal and archived it.

Era is the first bruneian woman ski to southpole with the other commanwealth antartctic expedition. Era was the younger one to join the group. The group done some training in new zealand before their trip to south pole. Era also mention about the low temperature that they going to face at the south pole probably -16 degree c. which more colder then your freezer at home and become more colder when strong wind blew. Era and the group have to be mentally and physically ready to face the polar shocks.

Era also added about the malay word "janji melayu" that we need to stop it or change it. what i understand, Era was trying to urged all young teenagers to focus and set up their goal and keep the promise to be done.

To sum up, the talk was quite motivational and supportive. Even i feel dare to challenge her someday if i have the opportunities to do so,and something more extreme. But yet, i'm PROUD for her that she had manage to set up her goal and have that "GUTS"

week 10,diplomatic resident

This trip, my group was lead by malik and the sweaper asri.my post was only being a member. which mean i did not joined the recce last friday. i was so excited because i did not know the way and what are the obstacles ahead. i was a very hot day, however it was raining last night which make the trekking extremely challenging. it was slippery, climb up the obstacle, cross over the river.it was fun! Not to forget, we need to collect some rubbish left by previous trekker and the marker.

We move a bit fast, that we can see the second group. The trekking become more challenging when our leader cannot find the way,and have to look for the marker. We have to stop and let the leader decided. This happened quite a lot. when we reached half way of the forest, Dr.Irene phoned asri to told us that we walk at wrong way and did not followed the track.what make our leader confuse is that to many marker were made and some of them are made by other people. My group and the second group when back where Dr.Irene wait us. we back on track.

Moment later, Dr.Irene recieved a call from the group one to told them that they still did not reached the view point. This alert Dr.Irene that the first group lost their track. Dr.Irene asked me to joined her to find the first group and let the other member,my group and the second group to continued the trekking to the end.

Dr.Irene and I rushed back to find them. We found them about 500 meter behind us. We walked out safely until the end eventhough one of the member totally exhausted and nearly faint. The bin member and the other member helped eachother with the rubbish. I can see the team worked from all of us.

Friday, 9th October 2009. Rimba

On this week's activity,i was selected to be a sweeper. we are divided into 3 groups. My group lead by Hjh Norhakimah (keem).on monday,5th october 2009,we are asked to remember the pathway and to put markers so we are not going to get lost.
On friday,i began my 2nd position as sweeper, as i experienced becoming a leader before it was the same experienced becoming a sweeper,i need to remember the pathway and make sure not anyone left behind. not only that,i need to ensure the leader walk on the correct pathway.

During the trekking,my leader have lost track, but she manage to find the way by its own,but i have to make sure we are not lost, looked after the marker and remember the pathway. Also, during the tracking we find alot of wild flowers, orchaid and ferns. we also find alot of "sumbui-sumbui".

When we finished at the first end ( checkpoint ), my group and the other groups had agreed to continued the new tracking, lead by Dr.IRENE. The new tracking was quite long and more obsticales. We have to walk through thick bushes. what so frighten me was wild boars. We can see the the footsteps of wild boars everywhere. im afraid it would attack us.

The new way also passed some abandoned unfinished houses project. This quite disturbing the tracking,we had to walked through some rubbish from the project, like woods, pipes etc. At the end,we arrived the finished point.

Eventhough we finished quite late than the tracking before, but this tracking was successful.
